Attack on Titan: "The Final Season"
Written at the midpoint of the "Final" season, S4 E16
Attack on Titan: the "final season" has aired, but it's been split, so the story isn't quite done yet. Still, despite my wavering view on it over the years, from hot to cold and back to slightly above room temperature, I still think it warrants a watch, best marathoned so you're not cucked by the cliffhangers it's so fond of.
The series is quite the rollercoaster, and certainly grim with a high body count, but I think it escalates pretty reasonably - with every obstacle they overcome, they discover another, bigger threat, and the rabbit hole just gets deeper.
Several years ago, I was told that there's a timeskip and they go from fighting titans with jetpacks on wires and boxcutter swords, to a world war scenario. I had no idea how the goddamn they were going to get there, but they did, and it made sense along the way.
I've been spoiled slightly, and heard echoes of how it all ends -- Game of Thrones TV series unsatisfying, and something to do with birds. Once again, I have no idea how we get to birds from where the anime left off, but I guess we'll find out next year or somesuch.
